I am a complete beginner when it comes to xen. I have been building communities for 20 years, focusing on topics such as games, movies, music, etc. I am fed up with social media, it makes me sick, so I would like to return to the world of forums, which I have always loved!

When I saw the bxen site, I knew right away that my dream could come true because I immediately fell in love with the site and its look.

I don't want to copy the site (haha), but I really like its look. I see there are a lot of add-ons (portal mode, etc.) that I'm willing to pay for to get a similarly beautiful and functional forum/portal.

How can I pay for these without PayPal, and what exactly are the add-ons that the site uses?

Beginner's Guide to Downloading and Installing XenForo and Addons

XenForo requires a purchased license, a server with PHP/MySQL, and FTP software to upload files.

Downloading and Installing XenForo

Step 1: Download

  • Log into your XenForo customer area and download the zip file
  • Deselect "Download the upgrade package only" when downloading for a fresh installation
Step 2: Upload to Server

  • Extract the zip file on your computer and locate the upload directory inside
  • Use an FTP client (like FileZilla) to connect to your server and upload the contents of the upload directory to your website root directory
  • After uploading, you should see files like admin.php and css.php in your root directory
Step 3: Run Installation

  • Open your browser and navigate to yourdomain.com/install/ (replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain)
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and enter your MySQL database information
  • Upload the config.php file to the src directory when prompted

Installing Addons

Method 1: Manual Upload

  • Extract the addon file and locate the upload directory containing PHP, JS, and CSS files
  • Use FTP to upload the contents of the upload directory to your server (maintaining the directory structure)
  • Go to Admin Panel → Install and upgrade → Install add-on
  • Select the addon's XML file and click Install
Method 2: Direct ZIP Upload (if server supports ZipArchive)

  • Install the "Installer" addon to upload ZIP files directly from the Admin Panel without needing FTP
  • This method is faster and more convenient for subsequent addon installations
